Careers & Jobs Fair 2022

Careers & Jobs Fair 2022

Date: 26 May 2022

The atmosphere at John Ruskin College was electric as students, staff, and members of the wider community joined us in our first in-person Careers & Jobs Fair since before the merger with East Surrey College.

Attendees had access to a wide range of employers, charities, and universities to discover a host of career, volunteering, and work experience opportunities in the local area. Employers gave students and visitors an insight into their roles and responsibilities, as well as avenues into the application process. Some visitors who joined us completed their visit by applying for jobs with Croydon Works and Lloyd Recruitment Services.

A member of the public commented:

“The event was well organised and speaking with employers was really helpful in finding interesting opportunities within the local community and applying for some roles.”

Prior to the event, students were encouraged by the Careers Team to bring CVs with them and were given specific time slots throughout the day to allow different departments the chance to meet as many exhibitors as possible. We welcomed more than 150 attendees and over 30 exhibitors from different industries including Business, IT & Customer Service, Caring Services, Construction & Engineering, Public Services, Volunteering, and Progression & Careers Advice.

Employers enticed students with presentations, interactive activities, goody bags, and much more! Art & Design Level 2 student, Ann added:

“Everyone was really informative, and it was great to speak with employers and universities to learn more about the next steps available!”

Attendees also spoke with members of our Careers Team to learn more about progression opportunities including Apprenticeships, T Levels, and Higher Education. Alongside this, we promoted our Full-time and Part-time courses as well as Higher Education courses for our sister college East Surrey College. Attendees could also speak with a representative from our HR department, to find out more about our current job vacancies.

Marilyn Munns, the Careers Lead Coordinator, commented on the event:

“We were really delighted to witness such a vibrant atmosphere at John Ruskin College yesterday where employers met face to face with eager and enthusiastic students finding out about opportunities, careers, and jobs across a variety of sectors.  Employers included the Home Office, the Police, HSBC, The Children’s Trust, and Off to Work to name but a few. We were all pleased with the turnout and will be looking forward to hosting another event soon.”

Thank you to all our fantastic exhibitors for giving up their time to attend our Careers & Jobs Fair. We hope you enjoyed the fair as much as our students and members of the public did!
