John Ruskin College was excited to be included in an invitation to the House of Lords as part of the South London Best Learner and Teacher Awards. The event was hosted by Lord Tope CBE, on behalf of the Committee of South London Principals, on Thursday 19 May 2022. During the day, students and teachers heard inspiring stories about how individuals coped during the pandemic and overcame personal challenges to exceed in their studies and support their peers. A special mention to Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, now Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, who shared his experience of transformative education.

The event saw our very own Student Union President, Elizabeth win the Best Learner Award. Elizabeth first joined John Ruskin College after completing her GCSEs at Oasis Academy Arena and studied Health & Social Level 2 and 3. Alongside this, Elizabeth was elected by the student body to become the Student Union President. Elizabeth has been dedicated to leading student projects throughout the year, raising money for charities, and engaging with the wider Croydon community.
