John Ruskin College offers a range of courses for adults. These courses are grouped into two distinct categories:

Adult & Community Learning Courses

We offer a very wide selection of leisure courses for informal adult learning across all areas of interest including Arts & Crafts, Languages, Hair and Beauty, IT, Teaching and many more.

Generally learners are able to progress from beginner level to improvers, through intermediate to advanced or even proficiency level in some areas of study.

There is also the opportunity in some curriculum areas to move from a leisure course into an accredited course with a qualification attached eg Business and Accounting, IT, Hair & Beauty etc.

Qualifications and Learning for Work

We offer a range of part-time and full-time courses that lead to professional qualifications in a variety of subjects and sectors. Whether you are personally looking to acquire a new skill or qualification to further your career, or you are a local employer who wants to improve the productivity of your workforce, we are here to help you.

You may be looking to change career path or develop your existing job role and so wish to gain an industry related qualification. There is no requirement to work in a specific sector or role to do this.

We are continually reviewing and developing the range of courses that we offer in order to reflect the needs of the local community and employers.

These courses are assessed and a qualification will be awarded on successful completion. The qualifications on offer include:

  • GCSEs
  • Skills for Life
  • ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
  • NVQs
  • BTEC Awards, Certificates and Diplomas
  • Higher National Certificates
  • Higher National Diplomas

Plus many other qualifications awarded by specific industry bodies available at a range of levels from Entry Level through to Level 5. The qualification level that you choose to study will depend on any previous qualifications that you have attained, or any training and experience that you have, as well as your long term ambitions and goals.

The only thing that remains is for you to decide which course is the right one for you.
