Basic Construction Level 1

Basic Construction Level 1 - Kieran

Former School(s): The Quest Academy

Kieran first applied to study Brickwork Level 1 at JRC but decided to change to Basic Construction Skills Level 1, as he wanted to gain more knowledge and experience about general construction. Kieran applied to JRC because of its great location and because of the new facilities within the Construction department.

Kieran commented about his course:

“The Basic Construction Skills course has allowed me to learn techniques and skills from a variety of places within the industry – so far I have enjoyed Painting & Decorating and Carpentry”.

Whilst studying, Kieran has completed his Painting & Decorating module which involved learning techniques of wallpapering, painting doors, walls and corners. He has also started his Carpentry module and is focusing on woodwork, currently, he is making a miniature door frame.

Kieran also commented on the teaching and facilities available at JRC stating he’s used the new Construction Skills Centre.

“The teachers give really good advice on what’s needed when working in the industry – the lessons are also fun and engaging.”

Kieran is planning to progress onto the Carpentry Level 1 or Plumbing Level 1 course at John Ruskin College and left a short quote about his experience at JRC:

“Everyone at the college is welcoming, I’ve enjoyed learning with people that have the same interests as me”.
