Scaramanga Agency gives design briefing to Art & Design students

Date: 02 March 2023

Local digital marketing agency, Scaramanga, kindly visited Level 2 and 3 Art & Design students to give a briefing on recent campaigns and branding strategies the agency had completed. This was to aid students on their current branding assignment for Canon where they must emphasise how photography can be used creatively on its own or with other forms of art, design, or media.

Company Directors Claire Scaramanga and Simon Leadbetter gave an inspiring introduction on how they started out in the industry, and current trends, with a strong focus on the importance of accessibility in design and how to use colour, typography, and shapes to make it inclusive for all. Simon spoke about the journey of design and showcased the work they did on branding with recent clients.

He said: “It’s all about content hierarchy and how we lead design around the page whilst maintaining visual excitement.”

They talked about the importance of having confidence in your designs and how believing in them is one of the most crucial factors when selling an idea.

Claire commented: “It’s 80% confidence and 20% design and technical expertise when pitching ideas to clients.”

Level 2 Art & Design student Isobel said: “I found this session really useful in helping me understand how best to approach my design task. I particularly liked the way they explained that ‘the brand is your soul’ and the ‘identity is the clothes you wear.’”
