Orbital South Colleges celebrate the Coronation

Staff and students from across our Colleges send their warmest congratulations to their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort for their Coronation this weekend.

Our students, both current and past, have marked the historic occasion in the following ways:

Celebrating with Art and Cake

Level 2 and 3 Art students at John Ruskin College marked the historic occasion by creating decorative Coronation stamps and beautiful artwork to adorn the corridors. They also held a special tea party with music, food and drink to share with each other.

Tracy Carrington, Lecturer - Creative Practices in Art, Design & Media at the College said:  “This has been a great experience for the students to use their art skills to create the stamps for the Coronation. They ran with the brief beautifully and it has been great to see it all come together.”

Coronation Invitation

We were thrilled to hear that the invitation for the Coronation was designed by former Reigate School of Art student Andrew Jamieson, a heraldic artist and manuscript illuminator whose work is inspired by the chivalric themes of Arthurian legend. Mr Jamieson is a Brother of the Art Workers’ Guild, of which The King is an Honorary Member. Many congratulations to Andrew on being chosen for this privilege.

Coronation Quiche

Life Skills, Childcare and Health & Social Care students at East Surrey College got messy in the kitchen this week, making delicious Coronation quiches. Students followed a simple recipe created by food technician, Nicola Hoad. Ingredients included cheese, spinach, edamame beans and tarragon.
