JRC hosts Careers Fair in partnership with Jobcentre Plus

On Tuesday 25 October, a Careers Fair was held at John Ruskin College in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) in partnership with the John Ruskin College Youth Hub and the Department for Work and Pensions via the Jobcentre. The Career Fair was hosted during Care Leaver’s Week and looked to support 18–30-year-olds to make informed decisions with their career.

The event was targeted at those between the ages of 18-30 who were unemployed and looked to support them into work via a range of employers, training providers and information sessions.

The list of employers and providers who attended were:

  • London Learning Consortium
  • OnCall Property
  • London South Bank University
  • Home Bargains
  • Strive Training
  • Go2Games
  • Prince’s Trust
  • Croydon Works
  • London Square
  • Smart Works
  • Dingo Recruitment

There were also 3 breakout rooms that were used to give 1-2-1 or small group support. The 3 rooms were broken into rooms for:

  • Disability Employer Advisors to work with those that had additional needs
  • Top tips for interviews
  • Understanding benefits to analyse whether working was the better financial option

The John Ruskin Careers & Employability Advisors also attended to be able to give the people that attended impartial advice on their career choices.
