Armistice Day 2021

Armistice Day 2021

Date: 11 November 2021

Today at John Ruskin College our students and staff honoured our fallen heroes. In preparation for Armistice Day, students from a wide range of courses including ESOL, Construction, Health & Social Care and more reflected on the sacrifices made for our country by creating symbolic poppy wreaths.

With students and staff gathered around, the wreaths were laid by the College flag mast. Rebecca Taylor, Vice-Principal (College Group), then read the war-time poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ symbolising the sacrifices of those who have fought during the war.

When the clock struck 11:00, students and staff held a two-minute silence to remember and observe the sounding of The Last Post.

Our newly elected Student President Elizabeth then delivered a heartfelt speech outlining the contributions of people from all races and backgrounds and their help in our war efforts.

In the LRC, an Armistice Day display has been created which features a selection of books and resources about the First World War.

Thank you to all students and staff for taking a moment to remember and to all students who took part in the wreath-making to commemorate the day.

Address: John Ruskin College, Selsdon Park Road, South Croydon, CR2 8JJ
