Sport Level 3

Sport Level 3 - Christian

Our Vice President of the Student Union for the year 19/20, Christian, decided to study Sport Level 3 having completed a KS4 course in English with us right here at JRC. He then progressed onto Sport Level 1, and has worked his way up. Christian originally chose John Ruskin College due to the “good reviews about the College” as well as the fact it offered the courses he wanted to do.

Speaking of his favourite areas of the course, Christian mentioned there are a lot of different aspects but “the human anatomy, rules and regulations of different sports and sports psychology” are the ones he finds most enjoyable.

Work experience was essential to Christian’s course – he received a placement at a local primary school to observe how teaching worked in this environment. He even had the opportunity to run a full lesson based on a lesson plan one of the teachers produced, getting feedback afterwards which was “positive and inspiring.”

Alongside his course, Christian has also happily taken on the role as Vice President of the College. “It was an opportunity that has given me additional responsibility, confidence and raised my self-esteem.” Within the role, he has delivered events for Valentine’s Day, Women’s Week, Diversity Week, and participated in the Selsdon Christmas Lights Switch On as an Ambassador for the College.

Speaking of his overall time at the College, Christian commented:

“The support and help received from staff has always been helpful to me and to my personal growth, this is also something that I will never forget. My tutors to me have been a real inspiration during my life in college, their help and support has allowed me to create a friendship with them based on respect. I will never forget all the conversations that I had with them and their advice to me on how to be successful in life, and also the motivation that they helped me to gain.”

Christian will be studying at St Mary’s University come September on a Sport Psychology course. He remarked how the psychology aspect of his course at JRC is what made him apply for this University course and how after the degree, he wants to complete a Masters and a Teaching Degree. He would love to work for a professional football team as a Sport Psychologist, and is certainly on the path to get there!
