Hairdressing Level 2 - Aimee
Former School(s): Shirley High School
Hairdressing started as a hobby for Aimee, she enjoyed styling hair regularly so thought it would be interesting to learn new skills in the hair industry.
“My sister used to study at JRC and had heard good things about the hair department, so I decided to study there.” Aimee has particularly enjoyed learning about the science behind hair and has found the support at John Ruskin College fantastic, observing that “the teachers are always asking how we are doing as a group and individually. They will never rush anything, they go at our pace so we understand everything properly”.
Aimee has made some great friends on the course and feels that “we all want the best for each other”. She couldn’t imagine doing the course without them, adding that they all get along really well.
For work experience, Aimee has had placements both in a hair salon as well as a cosmetics store, helping her gain confidence in talking to customers and adding to her educational studies. She has also taken part in competitions, such as the AHT competition at our partner College, East Surrey College, where Aimee designed bridal hair on one of the students which was “a lot of fun”.
In the future, Aimee would love to work in a salon and feels that she’s had the privilege to work with “really nice teachers that have given me all the support I have needed”.
