Retrofit Revolution 3-day programme in partnership with LSBU!

Date: 20 April 2023

Following a successful taster session at LSBU University, we delivered a three-day Retrofit Revolution programme delivered by our very own Rory Brelsford-Stewart, Employability Hub Manager & Terry Downham, Senior Business Account Manager.

The programme was for anyone interested in working within the green sector and for those unemployed and over the age of 16. The aim of the workshop was to give learners an insight into the types of careers within the sustainability sector and to give an in-depth understanding of the UK’s retrofitting industry.

Day 1 – Introduction to Retrofit
Learners started their course at John Ruskin College with theoretical and practical activities. They got involved with classroom-based theory around what retrofit is and how it benefits the UK. Learners also took a deep dive into how JRC is working within green construction.

Day 2 – Elite Renewable Visit
The group visited Elite Renewables in Croydon, a company that supplies and installs renewable technologies such as heat pumps and solar panels. They are currently retrofitting an old unit on an industrial estate to create a new office and showroom. The group was able to speak to members of the Engineering team about the technologies being installed from the insulation to the ground source heat pump.

Day 3 – ISO Energy Visit
On the last day, the group took a visit to ISO Energy in Horley, a renewable energy supplier that specialises in heat pumps and takes energy from natural sources and converts it for use at home. At their training academy, they gave the group a small presentation on heat pumps and other green technologies as well as a tour of their facilities to see how the business operates from the Energy Training Network.

Feedback from the 3-day program:

“I particularly enjoyed finding out about different types of heat pumps. The information about solar energy was inspiring and I’m happy to have attended the course which I can now include on my CV.”

Watch this space for future green skills courses!
