Safeguarding guidance on domestic abuse protection
Date: 03 April 2024
The holiday period often brings with it a reported increase in police callouts for incidents of domestic abuse.
The Government are consulting on whether the draft statutory guidance is clear and comprehensive. In the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 the government legislated for a new civil domestic abuse protection notice (DAPN) to provide immediate protection following a domestic abuse incident and a new civil domestic abuse protection order (DAPO) to provide flexible, longer-term protection for victims.
The DAPN and DAPO provide protection from all forms of domestic abuse as defined in Section 1 of the DA Act, not just from physical violence or the threat of physical violence. Consultation closes: 16 April 2024.
