John Ruskin College hosts Paragames Festival

Date: 08 March 2024

On 8 March 2024, our Sports department at John Ruskin College hosted the Croydon Schools Partnership Panathlon Festival in the Sports Hall.

Primary schools from across Croydon brought SEND learners and children to our College who may not have previously enjoyed or had the opportunity to play sports, with the goal of competing in teams across different activities. The main purpose of the event was to inspire and have fun whilst supporting each other. The competitive element meant the winning school would represent Croydon at the school games.

Our Level 1, 2 and 3 Sports students received a workshop a week before the event, giving them a briefing and training. They used their training and were the leaders throughout the event. They were responsible for running each activity, making sure the children were having as much fun as possible and keeping track of the scores.

Pearl Sethna Program Manager from Croydon Schools Partnership commented “We have a strong relationship with the John Ruskin Sports department. Students have taken part in a variety of additional events with us before this. They have all been good and are all well prepared, like today has been too”.

Our students showed great skills and patience. One student commented, “It’s been a really nice event and all the children have been well behaved. I have coached before, but it’s been a good opportunity to gain further experience.”

Linval Antonio, JRC Sports lecturer who organised the event added, “The students have done us proud today. They’ve clearly demonstrated what they are learning in class and put into practice their coaching abilities. It’s been an inspiring day, and great to be able to bring all these schools and children together.”
