CV Workshop with Croydon Commitment

CV Workshop with Croydon Commitment

Date: 15 November 2021

Our Art & Design Level 3 students received an informative workshop from Croydon Commitment, an organisation that supports the local community with projects centred around employability, education, environment, social inclusion and health and wellbeing.
In addition to Croydon Commitment, we were also fortunate to be joined by recruitment experts Mott MacDonald, CV Shed and also Croydon Councillor Robert Ward.

They provided our students with great advice on ways to be an attractive candidate to potential employers and how to make their CV stand out from the crowd.
Gathered in small groups, the experts discussed with the students what key information and attributes are required for their CV such as good grammar, sensible layout, referees, highlighting relevant skills, qualifications, and experience needed for the role they’re applying for.

The presenters provided examples of good and bad CVs to assist with the discussion and explained the importance of transferable skills which they are all developing on their Art & Design course.

It was a great opportunity for students to ask questions about the wider field of applying for jobs whilst receiving tailored feedback on their own CVs.

Our Art & Design student said;
“The advice I received was helpful. I was told how I should present and layout my most powerful strengths at the top so I can stand out. They also suggested places for me to get experience from so I could put that on my CV as well, so overall the workshop was really useful!”

JRC Creative Arts lecturer Tracy Carrington, who organised the workshop said;
“This workshop was very successful…and a great opportunity for the students to get one-to-one expert advice on their CVs and suggestions for how to adapt them for different purposes. It also provided valuable experience for both the students and local businesses to engage, collaborate and help link education with the world of employment. The feedback was very good from both sides!”
