17 - 21 October

This week, we are celebrating #CollegesWeek in collaboration with the Association of Colleges and along with Colleges from across the UK. Now in its fifth year, this initiative is a great opportunity to reflect on, celebrate and shout about all the fantastic things colleges do throughout the year to support individuals and build communities.

The theme for the Week is ‘Staff, Students and Skills – the lifeblood of what makes a College.

OUR STAFF

Our dedicated team of tutors, teachers and support staff form the backbone of the College. They go above and beyond each and every day providing specialist guidance, support, safeguarding and advice to ensure all of our students achieve their full potential in a welcoming, safe and positive environment.

Each year, staff members share their time, skills and expertise with local community groups and charities as part of an annual Social Responsibility day.

Sue Bennett - Science Lecturer, received an award for her hard work and dedication to students at the Best Teacher Awards, organised by the Committee of South London Principals and held at the House of Lords.

If you would like to join the College’s dynamic team, working in an exciting and diverse learning environment, check out our latest vacancies here.

OUR STUDENTS

We are so proud of our students’ hard work and achievements in competitions, awards and events, both within the College and externally. Below we shine the spotlight on some recent successes:

  • On 12 October, during Black History Month 2022, John Ruskin College for the third consecutive year welcomed members from the local community to be treated and pampered courtesy of our Hair & Media Make-up and Body & Spa students. The Intergenerational Event was run in partnership with the Manju Shahul-Hameed Foundation and the Croydon BME Forum.
  • Businesses from the local communities came to our Career & Jobs Fair where students could engage and find out more about volunteering and employability.
  • Whilst studying at John Ruskin College, students can partake in enrichment activities such as the gym, lunchtime sports, art, and student magazine. If interested, please find the latest enrichment flyer here.

SKILLS

Building, developing and taking skills to the next level for staff and students alike is our absolute priority. Our state-of-the-art facilities are designed with future careers in mind for students to develop their skills in realistic industry-standard settings.

We were proud to launch our brand-new Construction Skills Centre, enabling us to deliver an extended Construction course offer in modern, high-spec surroundings to all areas of the local community. Click here to see what our Construction students have been up to.

T Levels are a brand-new qualification designed to give you a head start towards the future you want. The 2-year qualification brings classroom and industry placement together on a course designed in collaboration with employers, and we are pleased to offer a range of T Levels courses.

Last year, John Ruskin was proud to partner with Jobcentre Plus to deliver a brand-new Youth Employability Hub. The hub is part of the government’s multi-million-pound Plan for Jobs and is one of dozens of similar hubs being opened across the country. At the College, the Youth Hub is a one stop shop for 18-24-year-olds, providing specialist employment advice services to help local young people get back into work.

We’re also delighted that the Department for Education (DfE) has recently approved the title of “Orbital South Colleges University Centre” for the College Group’s growing Higher Education provision.
