25 September 2026
John Ruskin College joined communities across the country on 25 September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, with a bake sale led by our Hair & Beauty department.
Staff and students contributed a variety of cakes and sweet treats for the sale, bringing the college community together in support of the charity. Macmillan Cancer Support provides emotional, financial and practical support to people living with cancer across the UK
Alongside raising money for a good cause, Hair & Beauty students had the opportunity to practise their customer service skills in a setting beyond the salon, taking payments and serving members of the college community.

Together, John Ruskin College and East Surrey College raised just under £250 for Macmillan Cancer Support – a fantastic achievement for a worthy cause.
Natalie Watkins, Programme Manager for the Salons department, was thrilled at the turnout. “Our Macmillan Coffee Morning was a fantastic opportunity to bring students and staff together across both campuses in support of a truly wonderful cause.”
She went on to add, “it was lovely to see our college community come together, enjoy each other’s company, and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make the event such a success!”
A huge thank you to our Hair & Beauty department and everyone who contributed to this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning. If you weren’t able to join, you can still support by visiting Macmillan.
