AWARDS EVENING 2019

Over 350 guests, consisting of family, friends, staff and governors attended the prestigious end of year Awards Event at the College on Tuesday 18 June. The students were dressed in graduation gowns, providing a sense of grandeur to the occasion.

The Awards Ceremony is held annually to celebrate the outstanding achievements and efforts of the students, including both curriculum awards as well as awards for outstanding contributions to the College Community.

The Principal, Kevin Standish, in his opening speech made references to the many accolades the College has won during the academic year.

The Student of the year Award went to Mohanavarna Manohoran, the Student President who has been exceptionally proactive, playing a crucial role on the Student Partnership Council, Departmental representative for Science, a Language Ambassador, as well as taking an active part in charity events throughout the course of the year.

The presentation of the awards was interspersed with an amazing variety of exceptional performances given by current and past students, from a variety of genre, including, singing, poetry and aspirational speeches and we were also entertained by the Pandemic Steel Orchestra, a local band which is based in New Addington, consisting of players from the local community.

To conclude the evening, the Chief Executive, of Orbital South Colleges, Jayne Dickinson addressed the audience with an inspirational speech. This was followed by professional photographs and a celebration buffet.

REFUGEE WEEK

On the week commencing the 20th May, we had our Refugee week where we had lots of activities and events.

Events included workshops ran by Kazzum for all our ESOL learners where the students enjoyed lots of fun, crafts and different activities to work as a team.

We also had one of our most popular activities during Refugee Week which is our Football match where each team included players from different parts of the world celebrating diversity!

A very enjoyable event that all players and supporters are looking to repeat next year.

SLEEP EASY EVENT AT ESC

What a night! Some of our students took part in the YMCA East Surrey Sleep Easy Event held at East Surrey College.

The learners built shelters, gave out awards, played loads of games and most importantly slept rough for the night for an amazing cause.

We are SO PROUD of you guys! Well done!
