Welcome from Kevin Standish, Principal of John Ruskin College
I am delighted that you are considering John Ruskin College for your next step and are looking to find out more about our courses and the services we offer.
On 1 February 2019, the merger between East Surrey College incorporating the Reigate School of Art, and John Ruskin College took place as planned under the group name of Orbital South Colleges. Our merger presents an exciting opportunity for the future, building on the very many strengths of our Colleges to create a high-quality, sustainable learning community; whilst still very much retaining the identity of each organisation.
At John Ruskin College we are very experienced in successfully delivering vocational qualifications. For September 2020 we have increased our curriculum offer to include an exciting variety of new full time vocational courses at a wide range of levels, including the following subject areas: Accounting, Air cabin Crew, Art and Design, Beauty, Make-Up and Spa, Business, Construction, Digital Media, Engineering, Games Design, Graphic Design, Hairdressing, Health, Care and Early Years, IT, Legal Secretaries, Photography, Plumbing, Public Services, Sport, Science, and Travel and Tourism. Alongside your chosen vocational course, you will also engage in valuable work experience related to your qualification.
We also work with a wide range of employers and are therefore able to offer Apprenticeships in many areas.
Our first-class teaching staff have excellent subject knowledge and substantial industry experience. They will support you to gain the skills you need – whether you are considering university, employment or an Apprenticeship. Last academic year, we achieved 98% pass rate on our Level 3 vocational courses with 80% achieving high grades.
Of course College is not just about studying, you will have the opportunity through our well established Enrichment programme to gain skills, pursue new interests and have fun. We offer a wide range of sporting activities such as basketball, football, cricket, table tennis, volleyball, rugby and beach rugby. There are also numerous clubs and societies you can get involved in, as well as becoming a student ambassador and a member of the Student Partnership Council.
The College has high quality, industry standard facilities which include a state -of- the- art digital media suite, a professional photography studio, known as the Sugar Cube and commercial on- site Hair, Beauty and Spa salons. The Health, Care and Early Years Department also has a virtual nursery facility. The Learning Resource Centre, complete with specialist facilities, complements our Client Services Centre which provides a one stop service to enrich the student experience. This area includes a Common Room which offers an independent space for leisure and networking, as well as a Careers Advice Centre, making it a truly inclusive experience. Other facilities include a competition standard sports hall and fitness gym and first class Science Labs. The ten-acre site also includes a well- maintained football pitch.
John Ruskin College has been accredited with several awards over the last few years; the full Matrix National quality kitemark as well as the Quality in Careers standard, both relating to its excellent advice and guidance.
