Success for young film critic Thomas Hart

May 1, 2013

Against all odds BTEC Film & TV student Tom Hart from John Ruskin College, an aspiring writer, has beaten thousands of entries from students up and down the country to be named runner up in Film Education’s prestigious Young Film Critic competition.

Following a class trip to the Barbican centre in London during National Film Schools week, the BTEC Film & TV students were lucky enough to see the limited released Hindi film Gattu (Khosa , 2011) in the brand new screening room. The project to write reviews on the foreign language film was a great chance to challenge the dominance of Hollywood films at the UK box office and to provide the opportunity to for the students to experience the joy of world cinema.

Tom’s success was publicly announced by Film Education of their website and the published review of Gattu is on there for all to read. He has won a goody bag of film-themed prizes as well as a selection of DVDs and a certificate to mark his achievement. Tom was delighted with his achievement ‘I was genuinely surprised to place as one of the runners up. Hopefully, this will be the starting point of a bright future in writing’.
