The Hair and Beauty Department at John Ruskin College were very proud to host the Semi Finals of the Southern heats of the National AHT Awards (Association of Hairdressers and Therapists) which took place on Monday 5th February.
Over 135 competitors from colleges and training providers, along with their models and tutors took part. Six well known judges within the Hair and Beauty Industry were present to adjudicate.
The competition covered the following areas, gents barbering, fantasy, team bridal, 1920’s makeup, ladies cut and blow dry, first year blow dry and the total look.
Shelly Agneau Wilson, both Hairdressing Tutor at John Ruskin College and Southern Area Director of the competition says. “Experiences like these help students to realise both the excitement as well as the rigorous demands of the commercial world.”
The Chair of The Association of Hairdressers and Therapists for the Southern Area, Mark Pawsey said, “I was impressed, along with the judges by the creativity of the students from the 6 Colleges and private training provider involved. The winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd of each category will now be entered into the National Finals on 12th March in Blackpool. We were very grateful to Mohammed Ramzan and John Ruskin College for the venue and their hospitality.”

We were delighted to host this high profile event at the College which brought regional Colleges and providers together to celebrate and showcase the incredible work and talent of their students.
