Mayor and John Ruskin College Students meet to reminisce about recent visit to Arnhem

The Executive Committee of the Student Partnership Council were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Avril Slipper to the college following their recent visit to Croydon’s twin town, Arnhem and their involvement in the International Youth Conference.

The learners were able to showcase the new vocational facilities at the college and discussed their future career plans with the Mayor.

The Mayor was also welcomed by the Principal, Tim Eyton-Jones and members of staff who accompanied the learners to Arnhem. She was shown the many photographs taken on the trip which included a battle field tour, museum visit, meeting with the veterans and the annual parachute drop at Ginkel Heath. The learners also participated in a model United Nations Conference alongside many other International students whilst they were in Arnhem. They represented Croydon at the commemoration services for the Battle of Arnhem and laid flowers at the graves of fallen soldiers.
