John Ruskin College student shines in the House of Lords
21st May 2009
These prestigious awards took place at the House of Lords on the 21st May 2009 and were hosted by Lord Tope. The awards are organised by the Committee of South London Principals (COSLP) – one of the strongest groups of its kind in the country. The principals work together to share good practice and to improve what is on offer for post 16 and adult learners across the boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond and Sutton. COSLP is chaired by Dr Nick Sinnamon, Principal of Kingston College.
Eighteen learners representing each of the colleges received an award. The guest speaker was Chris Wright, Area Director for London South and London Central, Learning and Skills Council. Addressing the students he praised their efforts and wished the eighteen outstanding learners every success in their future careers before presenting them with their certificates.
Fabio Gomes, Best Learner from the Science Academy represented all John Ruskin College Best Learners at the event. Fabio is currently studying BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science and has proven to be an extremely hard working and conscientious student who has shown great determination to succeed. In his first year Fabio achieved distinction level grades across all units in a short space of time. He has developed into a high performing student and is on target to achieve DDD overall (the highest grade possible at BTEC).
He is pictured holding his certificate with (right to left) Chris Wright, Jennifer Sims, his father, Kam Wong (Science teacher), and Valda Read (Director of Learning) who also collected an award for completing her CMI qualification.
