A House of Commons invitation
John Ruskin students impress again

6th May 2009
Students from John Ruskin College have been invited to sing at the House of Commons at an event to celebrate the work of sixth form colleges across the country.
On Tuesday May 12th the college’s Gospel Trio, comprising Nanye Asare, Tosin Oluwafemi and Lorraine Kamara, and classical soloist Marina Ivanova, will perform at the event to launch the Sixth Form Colleges’ Forum 2009 prospectus and the Sixth Form College and Local Authority Protocol. The students are all members of the college gospel choir. The choir is a very popular college activity which is gathering popularity both within the college and with members of the community who have heard them perform.
College principal Jennifer Sims explained, ‘I was invited to this event just after we had held our college concert when everyone was amazed at the quality of the singers. I contacted the Sixth Form Colleges' Forum to see if some of our students could perform for all the MPs, college principals and other VIPs who will be at the event. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the excellence of sixth form colleges and our singers certainly demonstrate that. I was asked to send in a CD and was immediately told that they would be delighted for our students to perform at the event. I am so proud of them and can’t wait for the moment when they will be heard by so many important people in such a prestigious setting.'
