The winners of John Ruskin College’s Best Learner Awards

8th May 2008

On Thursday 8th May, staff and students at John Ruskin College gathered to recognise the achievements of its Best Learners. Every year, each curriculum team identifies a student who has either shown outstanding commitment to their studies, demonstrated selflessness in helping others in the college, or who has been an inspiration to others.

The winners were: Ilia Itkin (A+ Team), Simon Darlington (Business and IT Academy), John Adedoyin (Creative Arts Team), Kerri Wimble (Science and Sports Team), Lynnet Akol (Health, Care and Early Years Academy) and Alisha Murray (Increased Flexibility Programme).

Each of the Curriculum Team Managers gave moving accounts of their reasons for choosing their particular student and it was evident that they were extremely proud of their achievements. Principal, Jennifer Sims, then presented each student with their certificate.

The event was punctuated by solo performances from Stacey Karkari singing ‘I believe’ by Fantasia a cappella and Stephanie Mensah singing ‘The World’s Greatest’ by R. Kelly.

The occasion concluded with a draw to select one of the Best Learners to represent the college at the South London Colleges Best Learner Awards at the House of Lords on 22nd May. This accolade went to Ilia Itkin. Addressing the Best Learners, Jennifer Sims concluded “I am sure that each one of you here today will go on to great success in your chosen future careers, and you will remember this moment when you were chosen as someone who was outstanding amongst all your peers. Congratulations.”
