25th May 2007
Staff at John Ruskin College have been busy getting fit and raising funds for charity.
On Sunday 13th May, Debbie Roots, Christine Elliot, Teresa George and Sarah Walford were among over 2,800 women running the 5km Croydon Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK and between them have managed to raise £300. Debbie managed to achieve a personal best time of 26 minutes.
On Saturday 19th May, Karen Norris and Denise Bray donned their bras along with 15,000 other walkers in the 10th Anniversary Playtex MoonWalk event. Leaving at midnight from Hyde Park the 26 mile walk took them through the streets of London to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research. Karen and Denise are seasoned Moonwalkers who are in their 5th and 6th year respectively and have raised £500 each this time and several thousands of pounds in the past through fund-raisers like Barn Dances.
On 19th/20th May, Rosie Fuller along with friend Teresa Watts cycled the 100 mile Castle Ride round 6 of Kent’s castles in aid of Action Medical Research. Together they have managed to raise £2,500 for the Touching Tiny Lives campaign to help sick and vulnerable babies. Rosie said "The most I've ever cycled before this was 11 miles so it is a huge personal achievement to complete this challenge."
On Sunday 17th June, Sarah Walford will be cycling the 54 mile London to Brighton Bike Ride to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation and is on target to raise £400. "I have been training hard over the last few weeks and I am looking forward to the challenge."
