Talented John Ruskin College student, Oluwaseyi Adarijo-Akindele has fought off fierce competition to secure a placement with Network Rail through the organisation "A Year in Industry". The Year in Industry gives young budding engineers an opportunity to take a year’s placement with a blue chip company, improve their employability skills and learn more about their field of study whilst getting paid a competitive salary.

Oluwaseyi will be based in London with some travel involved too. This opportunity will allow him to apply his learning to real life situations as well as improving his knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility. At interview he delivered an impressive presentation on the impact of electromagnetic interference and the impact of this on train signaling. His achievements in college have included a distinction in a Nuffield Science competition and sophisticated projects completed in class which have set him apart in the science field.

Oluwaseyi said "I am extremely grateful to the college for encouraging me to apply. I could not have achieved this without the support of my maths, electronics and physics tutors as well as the help from the Careers advisor, Mel Jackson. I would strongly recommend that every student takes advantage of the fantastic careers advice and guidance available at John Ruskin College."

At the end of his placement, he will attend either Bath or Imperial University to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Both of these universities require top grades and this placement will definitely give him a real advantage.
