On Thursday 10th May, John Ruskin College students were rewarded for their achievements at the college’s annual Best Learners ceremony.

A student was chosen from each of the curriculum teams who had either shown outstanding commitment to their studies, demonstrated selflessness in helping others in the College, or who had been an inspiration to others.

The winners included: Jamila Mendes (Humanities), Foisoll Choudhury (Business), Toni Ricketts (Creative Arts), Dana Ali (Science and Maths), Daphne Sawyerr (Social Sciences), Jaimie Cornish (Increased flexibility programme) and Yvonne Eydman (Adult Programme).

Moving accounts were given by the Curriculum Team Managers giving the reasons for their nominations after which Geoffrey Jackson, Chair of the Corporation, presented certificates to the seven winners.

During the event, staff, students and parents were entertained by solo dancer Marina Danckwardt who performed a piece called 'Memories of When' and Diana Mukasa performed a dance solo entitled 'Ambition'.

The event concluded with a draw to select one of the Best Learners to represent the College at the South London Colleges Best Learner Awards at the House of Lords on 24th May. This accolade went to Daphne Sawyerr. Geoffrey Jackson completed the celebration with an address to staff and students saying "I am very humbled about what you're done. I give my personal congratulations and best wishes for the future." College principal Jennifer Sims concluded "An occasion like this gives you a warm glow".
