John Ruskin College’s Olympic Hopefuls

The 2012 Olympics might seem a long way off but success comes with preparation. Several John Ruskin College students already have their sights set high and are in training to chase the dream of representing Great Britain in their chosen sport.
Idowu Akindele trains with Sutton/Belgrave Athletics club. At 200 metres his personal best of 21.91 seconds ranks him 38 in the under 20’s. At 60 metres his performance is even better at 7.05 seconds increasing his ranking to 23rd. Id has competed in the National Standards and at the Amateur Athletics Association and has qualified for the England squad giving him the opportunity to compete at international level. His determination has also taken him to the International Peace Sports Festival in South Korea.
Joseph Allen has represented England under 17s in Ice Hockey and has taken part in tournaments in Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic. He is currently in trials for the Great Britain under 18s team.
Wayne Clarke has competed for Great Britain in the martial arts sport of Tae Kwon Do in tournaments in Austria, Sweden and Germany. He is currently in the Great Britain squad at senior level.
Nicole Wrobel, who has lived in Germany, the USA, Peru, Mexico and Brazil is a versatile swimmer (butterfly, freestyle and medley). She has represented Peru, Germany and the USA in international competitions and has a huge collection of medals, ribbons and trophies.
So make a note of their names as you may well be cheering them on come 2012!
