John Ruskin College Student Banks his Learning

John Ruskin College student: Baraka Rumamba

19th September 2006

Baraka Rumamba, is no ordinary student. Having fled his country during the war in the Congo, he came to England in 2002 where he quickly mastered the English language. In 2004, he attended John Ruskin College in Selsdon and excelled in his A levels in Accounting, Economics, French and English Literature.

Not one to sit on his laurels, over the summer he attended an internship at the Deutsche Bank in London along with 28 other lucky students. There he was placed on the trading floor where he experienced the pressure of buying and selling stock at first hand. Baraka learnt that "The main thing is to have commitment. If they need something by a certain date, you have to deliver it." Undeterred by the pressure, Baraka displays all the qualities of the Deutsche Bank motto "A passion to perform" and is going to Southampton University to read Accounting and Economics in the hope of securing a job at the Bank in future.

Baraka is an example of how a college education can help you reach your dreams. Baraka was clear that "If it wasn't for John Ruskin College, I wouldn't be where I want to be. The teachers have supported me all the way."
