Ofsted at John Ruskin College

15th May 2006

In the recent inspection Ofsted inspectors found that everything at John Ruskin College was either good or satisfactory and that there were no areas of unsatisfactory provision.

The inspectors commented on the high pass rates on most vocational courses and the high numbers progressing to university. They felt that the college’s approach to social and educational inclusion was good and that there was a culture of mutual respect and good working relationships between students, their peers and their teachers. They noted that there is 'a climate of high expectations throughout the college and learners work in a supportive inclusive learning environment. They also said 'the college is effective in raising learners' aspirations and supporting them to achieve and sometimes exceed these aspirations.'

College principal Jennifer Sims said 'The inspectors confirmed the many improvements that we have made here at the college which include improvements to student achievement and improvements to our wonderful accommodation. They thought the college provided a safe and secure environment for learners and staff and we were particularly pleased to hear their views about the good support and advice that we provide for all our students. Everyone here will continue to work hard to help our students achieve their full potential'
