Croydon Science and Technology Challenge Day

Croydon Science and Technology Challenge Day

On Tuesday 27th June, 132 gifted and talented students from 11 schools in the Borough gathered at John Ruskin College for the Croydon Science and Technology Challenge Day. The event was organised by Paul Waterworth of MCS Projects who works with schools, businesses and colleges to raise youngsters' aspirations.

During the day, the students worked in mixed school teams on 4 different challenges which included making an IQ robot, an electric car, a device to slow the path of a marble using friction and a self-righting buoy. Students from Kings College were on hand to give advice and support. It was a great opportunity for pupils to mix with other schools, to work as a team and to give them a taste of College life too.

Presenting the award to the overall winning team was Councillor Graham Bass, Deputy Mayor. The winning team included Kate Clifton and Ben Cooke from Riddlesdown High School and Michael Betts and Stephanie Brown from St Andrews Church of England School. This was one of a number of Challenge Days being run across London and winning teams will gather for the final later on this year.
