Foundation Learning Courses (Level 1 courses)

Our Level 1 Vocational courses help you develop the skills needed to progress to a Level 2 Vocational qualification, Traineeship or Apprenticeship. There are a variety of engaging and fun career pathways for you to choose from:

  • Applied Science

    Covering such topics as the causes of disease, protecting the environment and carrying out experiments, this Level 1 Applied Science qualification will provide you with the foundations in science required to progress to Level 2 qualifications in science or health care.

  • Beauty Therapy

    This course is suitable for those of you who wish to develop the basic skills required in beauty therapy. The course will involve both practical and theory classes. During the practical lessons, you will work in a realistic salon environment and will be expected to carry out basic beauty therapy services on clients, once you have reached a certain level of ability. Some examples of the units that will be covered are: health and safety, basic manicure and pedicure, make-up, nail art and salon reception. This course will prepare you for progression to Level 2 Beauty Therapy. Possible opportunities for employment could include a Salon Junior within a Beauty Salon or Spa.

  • Business

    On this course you will research successful businesses in the local community, devise your own business idea and learn how to record and calculate income and expenditure. This course will aid your progression to a Level 2 qualification in Business.

  • Digital Media

    This creative and engaging course prepares you for progression to Level 2 qualifications in Creative Digital Media and will involve developing interactive presentations, creating storyboards and producing an advert or short film.

  • Hairdressing

    This course is suitable for those of you who wish to develop the basic skills needed in hairdressing. The course will involve both practical and theory classes. During the practical lessons, you will work in a realistic salon environment and will be expected to carry out hairdressing services on clients, once you have reached a certain level of ability. Some examples of the units that will be covered are: health and safety, styling hair, shampooing hair, colouring hair, and salon reception. This course will prepare you for progression to Level 2 Hairdressing. Employment opportunities could also include employment as a Salon Junior within a Hair or Beauty Salon.

  • NEW for Sept 2018 Horticulture/ Land Based Studies

    This new course for 2018 will provide you with the skills and understanding to enable you to progress to a Level 2 Land Based qualification. You will find out about different roles within the land based sector and grow and care for a variety of plants, using a range of tools.

  • Sport

    In preparation for a Level 2 Sports course, you will learn how the body works, take part in exercise & fitness and explore job opportunities in sport and active leisure.

Your Study Programme will Involve:

Maths and English at the appropriate level for you which will enable you to apply these skills in your chosen vocational area, everyday life and help you progress to the next step.

Work Experience – we will also assist you In finding a work placement which is relevant to your course.

Tutorial – You will have a personal tutor who will play a key role In supporting your personal, professional and academic development.

Please note, Students on Foundation Learning Courses will automatically be in receipt of Additional Learning Support.
