

The Creative Industries and Technology Department is the digital hub of John Ruskin College. The comprehensive curriculum caters for learners of all abilities, providing an exciting, rich learning experience supported by industry standard facilities in the state of the art, digital environment. Our facilities are complemented by our innovative approaches to learning through practical live briefs, professional speakers and fantastic educational trips in and around London.
Our dynamic teaching team inspire and develop learners to become multi-skilled Creative and IT professionals. Learners complete industry work experience programmes and create diverse showreels and portfolios that reflect innovation and creative flair. All our learners progress to HE at reputable institutions or enter the Creative Industries/IT sector and succeed in becoming the exciting young talent of tomorrow.
Skills for Life / GCSE
John Ruskin College is a Skills for Life College. As a key part of your course you will be fully supported to enhance your English, Maths and ICT skills, leading towards a qualification where appropriate.
Learners on a L3 programme will be able to resit GCSE Maths, providing:
- They have a L2 Skills for Life qualification e.g. Functional Skills, Adult Numeracy, etc or;
- They have achieved a D in Maths in June 2012
Learners on a L3 programme will be able to resit GCSE English, providing:
- They have a L2 Skills for Life qualification e.g. Functional Skills, Adult Literacy, etc.

- Foundation Learning Entry level - Vocational Pathway in Creative Industries and IT
- Foundation Learning level 1 - Vocational Pathway in Creative Industries and IT
- BTEC level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production
Area of Study: A superb and varied one year course that offers you the opportunity to explore the creative industries fields. You will be working on practical projects that will develop your ideas and skills in digital photography, design and TV production. This is the perfect course to prepare you for progressing onto one of our specialist Extended Diplomas. - BTEC level 2 Diploma IT Practitioners
Area of Study: A one year course which covers information and computer systems, use of websites and practical hands on units. You will have the opportunity to undertake work experience during your course. - BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Television and Film)
Area of Study: A dynamic, exciting two year course that offers you the chance to experience the world of media production through live briefs and projects. A fantastic chance to develop creative ideas and gain practical skills in all aspects of productions for whatever career path you want to follow in future. - BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Graphic Design)
Area of Study: A specialist two year course that will help you to develop both a theoretical and practical understanding of the creative use of visual communication using a range of processes and fantastic industry standard software packages. - BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Photography)
Area of Study: A fantastic two year course that is focused on the approaches to contemporary photography practices. Using a range of techniques from drawing to digital shooting, the course will offer hands-on experience and open doors to a world of possibilities in the lens based media field. - BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma IT Practitioners
Area of Study: A two year course which covers computer hardware, networking, website management and end user support. You may have the opportunity to be selected for the Careers Academy.
