Science Courses on offer

  • BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Applied Science

    Areas of Study
    A one year course designed to develop your knowledge and application of science to the world around us, including the fields of health and medicine as well as physics. You will also improve your practical laboratory skills.

    Some of the units you will study are as follows: Principles of Science, Chemistry and Our Earth, Energy and Our Universe, Biology and Our Environment, Applications of Chemical Substances and Applications of Physical Science.

    This is an ideal course to prepare you for progressing on to our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science.

    Specific Entry Requirements
    *A minimum of English Language GCSE at grade D/3 or above (or equivalent), Maths GCSE at grade D/3 or above (or equivalent) and Science GCSE at grade D/3 or above, plus one of the below (unless stated otherwise):

    – 1 other GCSE at grade D/3 (or above) OR
    – Merit at Level 1 BTEC Certificate (or above) OR
    – Pass at Level 1 VRQ Diploma OR
    – Pass at Level 1 NVQ

  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science

    Areas of Study
    A two year course designed to develop advanced knowledge and application of theory in the health sciences, electronics, microbiology and scientific research areas. You will also hone your advanced practical skills and have the opportunity to visit a variety of scientific sites. Some of the units you will study are as follows: Year 1 – Principles and Applications of Science, Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques, Microbiological Techniques, and Medical Physics Applications.

    Year 2- Electrical Circuits and their Applications, Contemporary Issues in Science, Applications of Organic Chemistry, Forensic Evidence, Collection and Analysis, and an Investigative Project.

    Over the 2 years you will need to complete 4 units which will be exam based. These are: Principles and Applications of Science I, Scientific Practical Skills, Principles and Applications of Science II and Contemporary Issues in Science. This is an ideal course to prepare you for progressing on to University to study medicine, technology or engineering.
