This 1 full A level equivalent course offers the opportunity to combine vocationally orientated ‘applied learning’ in the context of Acting performance and appreciation with other National Award qualifications from the Creative Academy and/ or a selected AS course from the A+ pathways or a GCSE retake if appropriate.

What does the course involve?

  • This two year course provides you with an opportunity to study Core units of Performing to an Audience and Principles of Acting.
  • You will also take a range of Specialist units which may include, for example, Devising Plays, Drama Improvisation, Developing Physical Theatre.
  • You will undertake assignments designed to reflect professional practice and prepare you for higher level courses.

How is the course assessed?

This is an ideal course for you if you prefer coursework to exams. You will be assessed on performances, devising and rehearsal phases as well as coursework tasks. Overall grades of Pass, Merit or Distinction will be awarded on the successful completion of all your assignments at the end of this two year course. External moderation ensures that National Award assessment standards are consistently and fairly applied.

What are the career opportunities open to me if I take this course?

This course would prepare you to audition for higher level study in Drama or Performing Arts. Other career opportunities include arts management, teaching, theatre in education and community theatre following further appropriate training. When combined with other ‘Creative’ National Award qualifications students will have a range of possible progression routes into Higher Education.
A combination with the National Award in Performing Arts Dance is strongly recommended for applicants with a particular interest in performance.
