What does the course involve?
- This is a practical science course with a strong emphasis on science used in industry and business.
- Some of the Core Units you will be studying are the Science Technician at work, scientific principles and the science workplace.
- Much of the work you will be doing is in the form of assignments and experiments and you will enjoy visits to science-based industries and services.
- You will also have a block of 2 weeks of science-related work experience, which will be negotiated with your tutor.
How is the course assessed?
This is an ideal course for you if you prefer coursework to exams. You will be assessed on the quality of your coursework and an overall grade of pass/merit or distinction will be awarded at the end of this one year course.

What are the career opportunities open to me if I take this course?
It can lead to careers involving science in the health service, farming, the brewing industry and sport science. You can progress on to the two year Advanced Applied Science course, alternatively to other courses that require the equivalent of 4 GCSEs.
