Romell Glave, a Level 3 Sports Student received a highly acclaimed Best Learner Award, which was presented at the ‘South London Best Learner Awards ceremony’ hosted by Lord Tope CBE, at The House of Lords on 23rd May 2019.This is an annual event which celebrates the achievements of students from South London Colleges. Romell was nominated by the Senior Leadership team as the College’s overall Best Learner.
Romell has been on an incredible learning journey at John Ruskin College – initially joining our KS4 programme, moving onto Level 1 Sport and then bypassing Level 2 due to his maturity and commitment and excellent achievement on Level 1.
Romell is a dedicated sportsman and an exceptionally talented athlete, who competes outside College at elite level in Athletics, namely the 100m sprint in which his best time is 10.21 seconds, just 23 milliseconds behind the world record holder, Usain Bolt. In 2017 he was the fastest U17 in the world at 100 metres.
In addition to achieving highly on his Sports course, Romell is an excellent Ambassador for the College, as a sports coach, facilitating enrichment and coaching sessions weekly. His teachers have commented, ‘He always goes above and beyond to help his fellow students’.
Romell is a true representation of an all round exemplary learner who is achieving in all aspects of his education, personal life and sport.
With a predicted triple distinction* grade in his course, Romell is set to progress to the University of East London, where he has secured a scholarship to continue competing in Athletics and to study Sports & Exercise Science.
